- Ask for a written warranty, how long it lasts, and what the company does if the pests come back.
- Check for a valid commercial registration that lists pest control.
Warning signs
- Sprays without telling you the product's name, refuses to show it, or uses a container with no label.
- Does not ask you to leave the rooms, or to keep children, pets and food away, before spraying.
- Sets a price and a method before knowing which pest it is or seeing where the infestation is.
- Promises to wipe out bed bugs or termites for good in one visit, with no follow-up or written warranty.
Permits and rules
What is worth asking a pest control company for: a valid commercial registration whose activity covers pest control, and a written quote before work starts. Ask for the pesticide's trade name and its safety instructions, and ask to see them on the container, because they say when you can go back into the rooms and how to protect children and pets.
