Water leak detection in Saudi Arabia

Updated 7 Nov 2026

Leak detection means finding exactly where water is escaping from pipes, tanks, bathrooms or roofs, using equipment that needs no breaking: acoustic listening devices, thermal cameras and pipe pressure tests. People need it when the water bill jumps for no clear reason, damp or peeling paint appears on walls and ceilings, or they hear water running with every tap closed.

How to choose

Ask and check

  • Ask for the leak-detection licence from the National Center for Water Efficiency and Rationalization, and its number.
  • Make sure the inspection comes before any repair price, and that the quote says what the detection fee covers.
  • Insist on a written report stating where the leak is and what caused it.
  • Ask for a written warranty on the repair, how long it lasts, and whether it covers re-tiling or repainting.
  • Check for a valid commercial registration that lists leak detection.

Warning signs

  • Quotes a repair price before any check with equipment.
  • Offers free detection, then proposes wide demolition without pinpointing the leak.
  • Gives no written report, only a message or a photo.
  • Calls itself approved by the National Water Company but cannot give a licence number from the National Center for Water Efficiency and Rationalization.

Permits and rules

Leak-detection providers are licensed by the National Center for Water Efficiency and Rationalization through the Nama portal, under the licensing rules it issued in 2023. Many people look for a company approved by the National Water Company, but the body that licenses these firms is the Center. A written report from a licensed firm helps if you dispute a high water bill with the National Water Company.
